Koh Pha-Ngan is situated in the Southern Gulf of Thailand, 80km from Suratthani, the mainland district centre. Surat Thani is one of the main transport hubs in the south of Thailand.
From here a host of destinations can be reached by boat, bus, train and even plane from Suratthani’s Airport; which is slightly cheaper to fly to and from than Koh Samui and is served by Thai Airways. The nearby Island of Koh Samui has an international airport that receives flights from all over Thailand and Asia. Koh Phangan is a 16km boat journey from Koh Samui with ferries all day.

All buses and trains stop in Suratthani town centre, where you will be provided with a connecting bus to the appropriate ferry pier enabling you to continue your over-sea journey to Koh Phan-nghan, approximately three and a half hours away. The State Railway of Thailand operate an efficient rail service down from Bangkok to Surratthani and up from Had Yai in the deep south of Thailand. Overnight sleeper trains are the best way to go, with clean and secure carriages, waiter service and clean crisp bedding.
There are a varieties of ways to finally reach Utopia Resort on Koh Phangan
:: Bangkok - Koh Samui - Koh Phangan
The most direct way is to fly from Bangkok to Koh Samui and then:
- Take a taxi/mini bus to Big Buddha pier and finally join the boat to Haad Rin Beach Koh Phangan. The boat leaves 3 times daily at 10.30 a.m., 1.00 p.m. and 4.00 p.m.
- Take a taxi/mini bus to Nathon pier and join the express boat to Thongsala, Koh Phangan. The Express boat leaves 2 times daily at 11.00 a.m. and 4.00 p.m.

:: Bangkok - Surat Thani - Koh Phangan
Another way is to fly or take the train from Bangkok to Suratthani and then:
- Take train, bus or fly from Bangkok to Suratthani. Then join the bus to Donsak pier and take the Ferry boat to Thongsala, Koh Phangan. The Ferry leaves 3 times daily at 10.00 a.m., 2.00 p.m. and 6.00 p.m.

From Thongsala or Haad Rin pier just take a taxi/mini bus to Utopia Resort located between Chaloklum Bay and Mae Haad Beach.

:: General Information about Koh Phangan

Koh Phangan stretches 19 km from north to south and 12 km from west to east. Phangan is situated south of Koh Tao and North of Koh Samui with easy access to the Angthong National Marinepark.
The island is mainly mountainous jungle surrounded by beautiful, white sandy beaches and turquoise waters with several beautiful coral reefs on the west-coast. You will not find high-rise hotels or package resorts here and there are still
many exquisite, undeveloped beaches to be explored.
In addition to diving and snorkeling, there are many activities to be found on the island; kayaking, jungle trekking, horse riding, kite surfing, yoga and of course for the travelers on the south of the island, the monthly Fullmoon-Party. |
Unlike neighboring Koh Tao and Samui, Koh Phangan has avoided the higher volumes of tourists and the development they bring. As a result most of the island is reserved as National Parkland. Although Phangan now has a network of developed roads and more up market resorts, the island has managed to retain its natural beauty.
